Opportunity Description:

Highlands Regional Medical Center is recruiting a general surgeon to join another employed physician in his practice.  The 2nd surgeon currently in the practice is retiring in the spring of 2014.  Base salary based on MGMA 50th-75th percentile with a productivity bonus based on Work RVUs.  Additional benefits include a stipend for CME and a spearate stipend for medical memberships and license fees, 29 paid days off (4 weeks vacation and 9 federal/state holidays).  Moving expenses paid and a portion may be used for rent, as available.  Medical school loan repayment opportunity.  Sign on bonus and if still completing a residency or fellowship, a monthly stipend is available with an executed contract.

    Renovations at Highlands Regional are ongoing.  We spend approximately $3.2 Million each year on capital equipment and capital project renovations.  Recently completed new clinic sites in downtown Prestonsburg and Paintsville, Kentucky.  The need for additional services and space prompted the hospital to begin to improve access to the community by developing modern ambulatory care facilities in these locations.

  • Like many other regional facilities throughout the country, Highlands provides healthcare services to a number of counties. Highlands’ immediate service area is Floyd, Johnson, Martin and Magoffin Counties with a combined population of over 90,000 residents. In addition, people from over ten surrounding counties come to Highlands to take advantage of the wide variety of specialty medical servicesHighlands Regional Medical Center is an acute care facility with 500+ employees operating 130 acute care beds and 15 geriatric psych beds.  Based on the draw area, demographics, referral patterns and patient demand the hospital is looking for a number of primary care and specialist physicians that is interested in joining the community and the staff at Highlands.  The hospital is committed to supporting the physician financially by offering a net income guarantee or employment arrangement with practice start up costs, medical school loan repayment, sign-on bonus, and moving expenses.
Community Description:

Prestonsburg, Kentucky is in the heart of Appalachia.  Prestonsburg, nearby Paintsville, and our surrounding service area counties are home to many country music stars.  Prestonsburg offers Broadway musicals featuring star performers, festivals, historical and civil war sites, and horse shows.  Prestonsburg and Paintsville offer boating and other water recretaional activites at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park and Paintsville Lake State Park, hiking nature watching adventures, golfing at Stone Crest Golf Course and Paintsville County Club.  Traditional mountain crafts and the work of many local artisams are showcased in specialty shops, art galleries and gift shops in downtown Prestonsburg.  Prestonsburg also represents a vast amount of entertainment.  The Mountain Arts Center is a 1,050 seat theatre that presents local talent as well as national headliners.  The Kentucky Opry is our own troupe of talented performers.  The Jenny Wiley Theatre has been providing "magic under the stars" for decades with it's classic Broadway shows.  Stone Crest Championship Golf Courtse, which is built on a reclaimed mountain top, puts you as close to the stars as you can get.  The East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium, located on the campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College, is a glalxy of fun with its traveling exhibits, laser shows and 40-foot domed planetarium. 

Floyd County enjoys a seasonal climate.  The average annual temperature is 56 degrees.  The prime viewing time for fall colors in Eastern Kentucky is typically around mid to late October.  Redbuds, dogwoods, and other beautiful trees spread the warm spring colors late April through the month of May.
