Prestonsburg and Paintsville offer boating and other water recretaional activites at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park and Paintsville Lake State Park, hiking nature watching adventures, golfing at Stone Crest Golf Course and Paintsville County Club. Traditional mountain crafts and the work of many local artisams are showcased in specialty shops, art galleries and gift shops in downtown Prestonsburg. Prestonsburg also represents a vast amount of entertainment. The Mountain Arts Center is a 1,050 seat theatre that presents local talent as well as national headliners. The Kentucky Opry is our own troupe of talented performers. The Jenny Wiley Theatre has been providing "magic under the stars" for decades with it's classic Broadway shows. Stone Crest Championship Golf Courtse, which is built on a reclaimed mountain top, puts you as close to the stars as you can get. The East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium, located on the campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College, is a glalxy of fun with its traveling exhibits, laser shows and 40-foot domed planetarium.
Floyd County enjoys a seasonal climate. The average annual temperature is 56 degrees. The prime viewing time for fall colors in Eastern Kentucky is typically around mid to late October. Redbuds, dogwoods, and other beautiful trees spread the warm spring colors late April through the month of May.
