Opportunity Description:

The Atlanta, GA VA Medical Center is searching for a BE/BC Family Practice/Internal Medicine Physician to join their dynamic healthcare team.

The opening is located at their Blairsville, GA and Rome, GA Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOCs) .

The Primary Care Physician provides primary medical care and is responsible for all aspects of patient care, including referrals to specialists, ordering and or performing procedures, ordering and monitoring all medications as well as handling the acute needs of all their patients.

The physician is accountable for ensuring the most cost effective delivery of care and meeting or exceeding established care quality standards.  The VA Healthcare System uses a comprehensive electronic medical record and is dedicated to providing primary medical care via a patient-centered medical home model. 

Salary Range: Up to $225,000 per year

A recruitment/relocation incentive may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate

Selected candidate may be eligible to apply for student loan repayment thru the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Participation is based on funds availability.

  

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Citizenship: Citizen of the United States: (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)

Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia

Education: Must have a degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.  Approved schools are:

(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted;

(2) Schools of Osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association;

 (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure

Physical Standards: All applicants must meet the physical requirements established for this position

Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible

FOREIGN EDUCATION:  To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

Facility Description:

The Atlanta VA Medical Center is located at 1670 Clairmont Road in Decatur, Georgia. The medical center oversees seven VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Smyrna (Cobb County); Lawrenceville (Gwinnett County); Oakwood (Hall County); East Point (South Fulton County), Stockbridge (Henry County)  and Newnan (Coweta County) and Blairsville (Union County) in addition to an outpatient clinic in Decatur and an outreach clinic in Rome, Georgia.

 The Atlanta VAMC has a highly active research program which is near the top ten in the nation and is largely conducted by VA physician-scientists who are also faculty members at Emory University School of Medicine. The program is fortunate to include one of the national VA Rehabilitation Research Centers of Excellence, a growing HSR&D program, and research programs focused on medical and clinical problems, rehabilitation medicine and engineering, as well as health services and outcomes research.

The research program involves over 500 projects conducted by 140 principal research investigators with more than 300 research associates and staff. These research projects cover a broad range of subjects, including bacterial infection, diabetes; development of new anti-HIV and -HBV (hepatitis) agents; low vision devices and aids, low vision and disequilibrium in the elderly; engineering and environmental design of facilities; genetics and regulation of bone growth and remodeling; developing gene therapy for diabetes; hormone action; kidney mechanisms of hypertension; growth factor interactions in lung development and disease; the genetics of cancer; control of blood vessel contraction; drug addiction, clinical anxiety and mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, disorders of memory and cognition, and clinical management problems in hypertension, oncology, gastroenterology, and pulmonary medicine.
