MEDICAL DIRECTOR – HOSPICE and PALLIATIVE MEDICINE

Hospice of North Iowa, an affiliate of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa is seeking a BC/BE Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician to be the Medical Director of this service line.

The Medical Director of Hospice and Palliative Medicine shall provide the medical aspects of the delivery of care for Hospice & Palliative Care of North Iowa. This includes over site for the quality of care, assistance in the development of standards of practice, and assistance with the development of programs to assure competence of hospice and palliative care staff. Duties include inpatient and outpatient care, Palliative Medicine telemedicine and teaching opportunities with the Palliative Medicine Fellows, Mercy Family Medicine Residents and medical students.

Qualifications include:  Graduate from an accredited school of medicine and licensed to practice in the state of Iowa.  Completion of a Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship is preferred. Board Certification/eligible in the practice specialty of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. If eligible will obtain boards within 24 months of accepting position. Minimum of 2 years' experience in Hospice and Palliative Care. Knowledge and belief in hospice and palliative concept of care. Demonstrated ability in program administration, knowledge of health care policy and reimbursement issues. Current motor vehicle driving license, motor vehicle insurance and availability to travel to other offices required. Knowledge of diverse lifestyles, family structures and dynamics, cultural and religious practices, learning preferences, and age and gender specific considerations. Strong working knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation for Hospice and Palliative Care and "The Joint Commission" Standards.
