The Position:

Hematology Oncology Associates, an established independent group located in Harrisonburg, VA, are seeking a BC/BE Medical Oncologist to join their team of 5 providers. Candidate will be joining an integrated healthcare delivery system offering a uniquely aligned relationship between the independent practice and Sentara RMH Medical Center to provide comprehensive and compassionate care within the community. Practice highlights include a 20+ chair on-site Infusion Therapy Unit, on-site Radiation Oncology group, and an in house lab for specifically oncology patients. Recruited physician can typically expect a 4-day workweek seeing on average 16-18 patients daily. Call is shared equally at 1:5 for Hematology/ Medical Oncology issues only. Ideal candidate will be able to perform bone marrow biopsies. The practice encourages a balance between work and family life with generous paid time off.  The group is prepared to offer a competitive compensation package with an early partnership track (no buy-in) after 1 year of employment.

The Practice:

The Hematology Oncology Associates team works out of the Sentara RMH Hahn Cancer Center, a comprehensive community cancer center accredited by the American College of Surgeons. The Cancer Center is located on Sentara RMH’s main campus, allowing physicians the ability to provide efficient, coordinated care to both their inpatients and outpatients. Departmental highlights include an on-site pharmacy, with board-certified, oncology-trained pharmacists that can prepare/mix needed medications, in clinic. There is an on-site dietician board-certified in oncology nutrition, and an on-site experienced counselor (LCSW). As a part of the Sentara Cancer Network, patients have access to additional services like a variety of support groups and classes for both the patient and their families. They can also be partnered with one of the cancer nurse navigators that are there to help guide them through their treatment plans and towards other resources available to them (finances, transportation, etc.). Sentara RMH’s campus is also home to a state-of-the art image recovery center, which offers products to help address the needs of cancer patients during and after treatment. The image recovery center provides therapeutic spa treatments, group presentations, and complimentary consultations for each individual.
