Practice Scope: Full-spectrum general surgery practice (including endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures) within a vibrant and growing multispecialty group practice

Affiliated Hospital: Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Baker City, a critical access hospital (CAH)

Primary Location: Clinic and hospital-based practice on campus

Practice Model: Employment

Requirements: Individual with a doctor of medicine (MD) or a doctor of osteopathy (DO) degree (MD/DO); successful completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited general surgery residency program; current, unrestricted full medical license in Oregon and Idaho; valid controlled substance registration with Idaho Board of Pharmacy and DEA; board certification through the American Board of Surgery (ABS) or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery (AOBS) (or obtain such certification within 3 years of employment).

Work Schedule: Typical schedule involves a minimum of 32 hours per week of patient contact time to include clinic responsibilities as well as hospital procedures, rounding and consults plus evenings and weekend call. 

Call: In development with the Saint Alphonsus Ontario General Surgery program.

Saint Alphonsus Medical Group (SAMG) is a physician led and accountable 420+ provider multispecialty group practice that seeks a residency trained general surgeon with training and experience in endoscopic and laparoscopic approaches, who is committed to a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care and desires to develop a general surgery practice to support a growing multi-specialty medical group and the regional surgical needs of the Saint Alphonsus Health System.

Requirements include a strong clinical background and completion of a general surgery residency and ABS or AOBS board certification in general surgery. Facility Description:

Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Baker City (SAMC – Baker City) is a critical access hospital in eastern Oregon with a Level IV Emergency Department (roughly 7,500 visits per year). The hospital has 2 monitored critical care beds and 19 beds in a medical-surgical inpatient nursing unit; inpatient services also include a step-down unit. The hospital also has two spacious ORs with 24-7 CRNA coverage. On-site ancillary services include: lab, radiology (80 slice CT), ultrasound, respiratory therapy, IV infusion (incl. chemotherapy), et al. Mobile MRI services are also available on a weekly basis.

The hospital’s active medical staff includes but is not limited to the following: an Orthopedic Surgeon, a General Surgeon, an Ophthalmologist, four Family Practitioners, a Family Practice/Sports Medicine physician, an Internist, a Rheumatologist, etc. Visiting specialists provide on-site clinic services on the hospital campus at least monthly and include the following specialties: ENT, Pulmonary Diseases and Sleep Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, General Cardiology and Electrophysiology, Medical Oncology, Dermatology, and a Foot and Ankle Orthopedic clinic. Moreover, the Saint Alphonsus Medical Group has an extensive array of subspecialties available on a consultative and referral basis and the System’s tertiary care regional medical center, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, is an ACoS certified Level II Trauma Center in Boise, Idaho. SAMC – Baker City also is part of the Saint Alphonsus telemedicine clinical network, integrating telemedicine into the patient care experience with its remote presence robots in order to provide healing and hope close to home.
